YEAR 6 PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT CAMP
HEAD, HEART & HANDS

Our Year 6 Camp in Tunas Muda International School plays an important role in nurturing our students’ characters as a part of their growing up process. Being away from home for 2 nights 3 days became a great experience for our Year 6 students. We stayed in Erema Village, Cisarua on the 9th-11th of November 2011 and all the Year 6 students from both Kedoya and Meruya met and had fun together. Led by Cakrawala Team, they gained a lot of knowledge, skills and understanding about how they should use their head, heart and hands wisely through different kinds of interesting activities. They also learnt how to be respectful and thankful for what they have, family and talents, in particular. They had a special moment to reflect and to pray for their families and friends.

The Year 6 camp was a great sucess for all of the Year 6 kids. In the camp we went to Cisarua and stayed in Erema village. We were led by the Cakarawala team.

On the first day we were divided into eight groups. We had ice-breaking (games) at night. Next we ate our dinner. Then we watched a movie. Then each group, with a mentor/teacher, shared each others’ bad/tragic memories, and promised to not tell anyone. After that we had our night prayer and went to sleep

On the second day we learned about the left brain, right brain, and middle brain. We, then, also watched some movies. We also learned about the heart. Then we played some games - 7 Up, 7 Claps, Crazy Soccer, and Crazy Chair.

Seven Up is a game where a group of people make a circle and count from 1-6 by touching our shoulders to show the way. Seven Claps is a game where there are 4 routines of clapping and the people will have to do each routine twice from 1-2-3-4-3-2-1. In Crazy Soccer each team member had a number. One of the Cakrawala team said numbers to tell us who had to pass the ball to who, and when they said that certain number of goals the person, from each team, whoh had that number had to go to the front and blow and pop the plastic! It was confusing but fun! Crazy Chair is a bit like tag, but only if you are caught you must sit in the chair and pretend to have a sickness that you choose.

On the third day we watched some short movies and learned about when we were inside our mother’s stomach. After that each class got one type of performance that we had to prepare. The performances was very entertaining! After the performances we went home to Jakarta.

We learned many things from the camp and, for me, the main thing was to appreciate others.
