In Unit 3, Year 2 students learnt that “people work together to make the jobs done”. They found out that working with others help us to achieve the goals that we have set faster and easier. After they had brainstormed the advantages of working together and alone in the classroom, the Year 2 students realized that the former is better than the latter.

To enrich their knowledge about this, we went on an excursion to CNS Magazine, where they observed the magazine staff at work and found out how they all work together to make the magazine successful. They responded to this activity positively as they learnt and got lots of information which made them want to make their own magazine too! Back to the classroom the next day, they started to plan and discuss what they should do and make. The class and the ICT teachers worked together to to produce a class magazine.

The ICT teachers organised a logo competition among the Year 2 students and everyone voted for who made the best logo and this was used for the front cover later on. After this, the students organized themselves by recognizing their interests and talents and they decided who was to be the president, the editors, journalists, photographers and contributors. One of the planned contents of the magazine was interviews of the school staff; teachers, administrators, security guards and janitors were their resources. They also researched some articles from the library to be put in the magazine.

Everybody participated happily! Unavoidably, problems occurred during the process but they talked about these and found solutions by themselves or by asking the teachers and parents. Year 2 students really enjoyed making the magazine very much!!
