THE
PRIMARY YEARS PROGRAMME (Pre-TK to Year-6)
•
Pre-TK
• Kindergarten A and B
• Primary Years 1 to 6
The Primary Years Programme (PYP)
provides the curriculum framework for the initial nine years of the
whole school programme. (Pre-TK, TK A, TK B, Primary Years 1 to 6)

The
Primary Years Programme focuses
on:
• developing the whole child, addressing social, physical, emotional
and cultural needs
• creating a strong foundation in all of the major areas of study
• developing an international perspective with children becoming
aware of and sensitive to the points of view of people in other parts
of the world
•
PRE-TK
The first year of the International Baccalaureate’s Primary Years
Programme (PYP) starts at the Pre-TK level.
Pre-TK is for students aged 3 to 4 and focuses on exploration and companionship.
English is the language used as the medium of communication. Students
continue to learn through directed play and active learning. They continue
to be exposed to a vocabulary of simple nouns, adjectives, verbs, and
common phrases that is developmentally appropriate. There is a consistent
focus on ‘learning is fun’.
The Pre-TK students require companionship and a sense
of belonging to a group. Interaction with other people is promoted by
providing time and space for social activities, making friends at school,
participating in performances, welcoming guest speakers and travelling
together on excursions.
The Pre-TK students are encouraged to participate in
all aspects of learning and work for progressively longer periods. They
make choices and decisions, use materials in flexible and imaginative
ways, initiate conversations and ask questions, work collaboratively
with others, learn to sustain their interest and extend their knowledge.
They emerge as independent learners, confident in taking the next step
on their school journey.

KINDERGARTEN A and B
Kindergarten A, for students 4 to 5 and Kindergarten
B, for students 5 to 6, combines the Montessori learning methodologies
with the curriculum framework of the International Baccalaureate
Organization’s Primary Years Programme (PYP).
Kindergarten students construct meaning
from experiences in the social and physical world that surround them.
They learn through theme-based activities, which promote language development,
values education, early math, early science, arts and craft, computer
skills, physical development, and field trips.
Language Development
Kindergarten students use English and Indonesian in
daily conversations with friends and teachers. They practice speaking,
listening, reading, and writing through different activities so that
they are naturally comfortable with both languages.
Values Education
Kindergarten students learn to respect the values and
beliefs of others. Students are given the opportunity to develop their
own moral, ethical, and social values.
Early
Math
Basic concepts of mathematics are introduced through songs, games, rhymes,
stories, and Montessori apparatus. Kindergarten students
enjoy learning mathematics through concrete experiences before moving
on to the abstract.
Early Science
Kindergarten students make sense of their world by
experiencing it. Through investigating, exploring, and discovering the
world around them, they begin to learn and develop a respect for their
environment.
Arts
& Craft
Kindergarten students find a medium of expression through
activities such as collage, drawing, painting, and media experimentation.
Their participation in music and dance performances also enhances their
self-esteem.
Computer Skills
Regular access to computerized learning is provided. Students practice
and refine their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Physical Development
A variety of indoor and outdoor sport activities are part of the well-rounded
physical education programme.
Field Trips
Field trips and guest speakers are featured throughout the year as the
classroom extends beyond the confines of the four walls.

PRIMARY YEARS 1 to 6
The Primary Years (Years 1 to 6), students aged 6 to
12, integrates the National Curriculum with the curriculum framework
of the International Baccalaureate Organization’s Primary
Years Programme (PYP).
The programme develops students who are independent
and self-confident, yet socially and
environmentally aware. The programme also serves to
meet the needs of students academically, socially, physically, emotionally,
and culturally. The subject areas covered in the programme include languages,
values education, mathematics, integrated studies, information &
communications technology, arts, and physical education.
Languages
The students acquire their communicative skills with the use of English,
Indonesian, and Mandarin in daily school activities. Practical applications
encourage students to ask relevant questions, listen attentively, contribute
ideas, and express their opinions creatively and critically.
Values Education
The Primary Years Programme promotes and fosters a set of attitudes,
which include respect, integrity, independence, cooperation, confidence,
perseverance, politeness, discipline, compassion, and responsibility.
Students are encouraged to reflect, to make informed choices, and to
take actions that will help themselves, their peers, school staff, and
the wider community.
Mathematics
The students learn the importance of mathematics in real life situations.
Computation skills are developed progressively using mathematical material
and resources. Mathematical understanding is applied to handle data
and solve everyday problems.
Integrated Studies
The interdisciplinary approach of Integrated Studies encourages the
Primary Years students to develop links between different bodies of
knowledge. Each unit of study allows students to analyze a topic from
the perspective of a number of subject areas.
Information & Communications Technology
The students learn to appreciate the application of computer technology
in the modern world. Proficiency is developed in keyboarding, word processing,
desktop publishing, graphic design, data processing, internet browsing,
multimedia presentation and control technology.
Arts
The students discover and express their knowledge, ideas, feelings,
beliefs, and values through the creative and performing arts.
Physical
Education
The students develop their physical skills through participation in
both individual and team activities, which provide opportunities to
progress and reach appropriate levels of attainment. Swimming sessions
are certified by the British Amateur Swimming Association.
