TODDLER/NURSERY
PROGRAMME (1 - 3 years)
The
Toddlers / Nursery Programme is for students aged 1 to 3 and is the
foundation for developing an understanding of important concepts, acquiring
essential skills and knowledge, developing positive attitudes and learning
to take responsible actions.
All
classes in the Toddlers and Nursery use English as the medium of communication,
which allows the children to be exposed to the language in a natural
way. Comprehension of English is promoted by the regular repetition
of greetings, farewells, questions, instructions, familiar songs, and
chants. Through directed play and active learning, a vocabulary of simple
nouns, adjectives, verbs, and common phrases is developed. There is
a consistent focus on 'learning is fun'.
Toddlers
is for students aged 1 to 2 and focuses on discovery and learning new
things for the first time.
These
students discover sensorial learning. They are able to touch, smell,
taste, hear, and see in a purposeful way. They experiment with paints,
play dough, puzzles, educational toys, water, sand, and nature.
Each
child is accompanied by an adult carer. The students meet other people
outside their family group for the first time in a secure and caring
environment. They begin to interact with others and participate in group
activities, such as singing and reading.
The
students learn to handle routines such as putting their work away, and
to care for themselves through exercising simple daily tasks including
washing and drying their hands.
Nursery
is for students aged 2 to 3 with the focus on developing independence
in a safe and stimulating environment.
The
Nursery students are active learners and they learn most effectively
through first-hand experiences. Understanding of the world around them
develops rapidly as they start to compare objects that are soft and
hard, can be pushed and pulled, cut and shaped, built and demolished,
thrown and caught, glued and painted.
The
Nursery students are encouraged to question, explore, apply, and test
out what they know and can do.
