YEAR 5 CAMP

The Year 5 camp is special camp which only happens once a year…and most importantly once in our lives. As members of Year 5, it’s not often that we can spend a night out away from our homes and especially from our parents, but we did it …..with pride . The theme of this year’s camp was Friendship and the purpose of the camp was to strengthen the friendship bonds between the Year 5 students from both schools, to build strong leadership skills and team work and to teach the students how to be more independent. All done with help from our big brothers and sisters from Year 11 and teachers.

The Year 5 students, led by Year 11 students, had some awesome activities to build their cooperation. There were not only physical games but also analytical thinking games. On the first night, we had a bonfire, followed by one of the students’ favourite activities, the Code Breaking game, in which they needed to think analytically to break the code, to be able to get another clue and solve the mystery around the school. Then we had a Reflection Session which was led by Mr. Hugo. The students learned that no matter how they are and where they are, they need friends in their life. They reflected on themselves and promised to be better friends in the future.

All of us had to sleep in our sleeping bags together in school hall! Although we were very tired, we were able to wake up early the next morning to continue our camp activities. On the second day, there were some fun outbound activities which were designed to build teamwork, such as Move The Doughnut, where we had to move some big tires with bamboo sticks to a different pole together as a team, and Strangled Hands, where as a group we had to find a way to release the strangled hands. There were so many more games! The students learned that if they communicate and work well with their team, they could succeed. It was so tiring but it was really, really FUN! It was a memorable time for all of us and actually we wished that this moment would never end, but we had to call it a day and return back to our homes. For sure, the students will never ever forget this camp and the friendships made.
